Just a quick update this week as I show you around the plot.
Looking back at 2013
I realise we’re almost at the end of January, but I thought I would take the time and reflect back at 2013, and look at my successes and failures. For me, 2013 was a pretty successful year. It was my second year on the plot and I had learnt a lot from the previous year, and I was determined not to make the same mistakes.
The Vegetable Growing Year: Jobs to do in February
Spring is just around the corner but yet February can still be one of the coldest months of the year. If the weather permits you can start some early sowing or even plant outside. However, if the conditions aren’t right, delay your sowing until the weather warms up a little.
Clubroot
Clubroot (Plasmodiophora brassicae) is a fungal infection that affects the brassica family which causes swollen, distorted roots and can stun plant growth. Clubroot normally strikes from mid-summer to autumn when the soil is warm and moist, and once you are infected, can remain in the soil for up to 10 years. Continue reading
How to grow Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are traditionally growing in warm climates, but hardier varieties are now becoming available in the UK and can be grown quite easily as long as they are grown in a warm sheltered spot.
